User experience 

  • Can one sleeve be used for different cards?
    • The device is compatible with the released OS STPay TopazBio. All cards loaded with this OS will work with the SmartNRoll device.
  • What happens if the user removes the card during enrollment?
    • The user can then simply restart the process.
  • How do you know that the enrollment has been successful?
    • The SmartNRoll device supports an verification check to confirm successful enrollment as part of the process. The issuer of the device can decide whether this feature is enabled, or not, during the personalization process.
  • Does the sleeve come with a manual?
    • Fingerprints will provide a generic user guide that can easily be branded and customized, e.g. different languages, logos etc.
  • Should the user start with right hand or left hand?
    • The user should first enroll the finger that they will normally use to authenticate a payment.
  • Which of my ten fingers should I use?
    • The user is recommended to enroll the finger that they will normally use to authenticate a payment, typically this will be their right or left thumb.
  • Do I need to re-enroll when I get a new biometric card?
    • Yes. No data is stored outside of the previous card, so re-enrollment is necessary when you receive a new (second) biometric payment card.
  • Can I test the first payment?
    • It is not possible to make a trial payment during the enrollment process.
  • Does the user need their PIN to perform the enrollment with the sleeve?
    • No PIN or other authentication is needed to start the enrollment process.
  • Is the PIN code sent with the sleeve, or is it sent with the card or are all three things sent separately.
    • The issuer and fulfilment bureau decide how to distribute the SmartNRoll device, card and PIN.
  • What happens if enrollment fails?
    • The SmartNRoll device is designed to guide the user through the complete enrollment. If enrollment fails (e.g. the user gets interrupted and the device times out), the user can simply remove the card, re-insert and start from beginning. In some rare occasions, a user might have difficulty with one finger. We recommend trying another finger if this happens.

Security 

  • Can any user enroll on the card?
    • This is dependent on the issuer during the personalization process, when activating the enrolled template. For example, a PIN could be needed to authenticate the first transaction to activate the card’s enrolled template. There is no authentication at the start of the enrollment process, so anyone can enroll on a card.
  • Can all fingers in a family be enrolled on the card?
    • It is up to the issuer to decide firstly if the cards will support multiple fingerprints, and secondly if one or two people are allowed to access and use the card. The SmartNRoll device supports both settings.
  • Is there any personal data stored in the SmartNRoll device?
    • No, the SmartNRoll device only activates and controls the enrollment function inside the card. No data is transferred or stored in the device.
  • Can the device be connected to any other device, does the device require any connection?
    • SmartNRoll is a standalone device and will not require any additional connection or services.
  • Is it possible to configure the personalization settings so a user can re-enroll the finger after the card has been used for a while?
    • Re-enrollment is possible depending on the card personalization by the issuer. Thanks to the SmartNRoll device, no authentication can be managed. It is recommended to configure the card such it activates the newly enrolled template only after a cardholder verification. The configured rules (for template activation) would apply for enrollment and re-enrollment cases.

  • What is the weight of the device?
    • The weight of the device is 24g, including the battery.
  • Can SmartNRoll be shipped as regular mail or will it need a special label?
    • The device contains a standard coin cell battery. Please check the mailing rules that apply for your relevant country.
  • Is it possible to customize the logo on the device?
    • Yes, it is possible to add custom printing for a MOQ of minimum 1000 units.

Environmental 

  • Is the plastic material recycled?
    • Recycled plastic will require a custom order and can be discussed upon request.
  • What should customers do with their SmartNRoll device once enrollment is complete?
    • The lifecycle of the SmartNRoll device is dependent on the issuer or fulfillment bureau. Different options are available: The SmartNRoll device label shows how to recycle. Depending on the country and region, additional actions might be needed. It is possible for the fulfillment bureau to re-use. I.e. the user returns the device after usage. If re-enrollment is activated on the card, the user can keep the SmartNRoll device for potential re-enrollment.
  • Can the sleeve be used for something more than enrollment?
    • It is recommended to either store the SmartNRoll device for re-enrollment or to send it back for re-use.
